Bartol Consulting Campaign Management Database Marketing Project Management Technology Planning & Assessment
Tim Bartol Principal and Founder
Tim Bartol, the principal and founder of Bartol Consulting, has invested more than 10 years in various aspects of information technology assessment, development and management. The majority of that time has been spent providing support to direct marketing managers. He has participated in or led a series of different projects with quantifiable bottom-line impact:

In the area of Project Management, Systems Modification, System Builds and Data Migration, he:

Co-managed his employer’s first-ever internal programming development project, reducing lag-time between its order processing system and call center system from 6 weeks to 1 day.

Took over responsibility in mid-project of a stalled marketing database build for a 500-person publishing company, getting it back on track and delivering results to the company within 6 months.

Managed consolidation of two DOS/NT campaign management systems to a single Unix/Oracle/Visual Basic database, instituting the company’s first effective data controls, and quadrupling system speed.

Led restructuring of a corporate order entry and cash deposit process, resulting in 40% reduction in staffing and unit costs per order (a savings of approx. $400K/year).

Led the systems side of a project to replace the main corporate accounting system, resulting in 1) reduction of AP processing cycle time from 45 to 10 days and 2) reduction in monthly cash/accrual closing times from 7 to 3 days.

In the area of Systems Assessment, he:

Served as technical lead in choosing a strategic e-commerce partner, and established security standards for customer and legacy system interfaces to the e-commerce system.

Was responsible for the technical side of the Year 2000 compliance effort for a 1000-person company: setting standards and overseeing testing/remediation of 15 systems and 35 service vendors.

In the area of Technology Planning, Policy and Budgeting, he:

Coordinated integration of legacy and web systems at a 100-person publishing company which was developing e-commerce and e-marketing capabilities from scratch. As of 6/30/03, this e-commerce represented 50% of total business and nearly 100% of new customer acquisition.

Hired a "transition team" of consultants to rebuild the corporate systems infrastructure for a 1000-person publishing company, and played a key role in negotiating – and ultimately deciding against – outsourcing of infrastructure services to EDS. Represented one 100-person division of the publishing company in creating a new in-house IT team and governance process.

Coordinated policies, budgets and strategic plans for all divisional applications and infrastructure used by a 100-person division of a publishing company.

Managed consolidation of all processes and systems of a 20-person subsidiary into a 100-person parent publishing organization, resulting in a 60% reduction in the subsidiary’s IT operations budget.

While accomplishing this work, Mr. Bartol held a series of progressively more demanding titles: Systems Analyst; Manager, Systems Analysis; Director, Applications Development and Vice President, Chief Technical Officer.

Mr. Bartol received his BA from Stanford University, Stanford, CA and his MBA and MS/MIS degrees from Boston University, Boston, MA.
